Sir,

A certain Mr Prasad Dayanand, I read in the letters column of your daily d/ 20.12.02 was much moved by this article! He wrote " the author does'nt have an idea of the danger of Iran becoming a full-fledged nulear state. And that he should read more about the history of the world to get a better understanding of the present situation in West Asia and what it means to the world".

I wish to ask Mr Prasad what exact dangers is he referring to? What happened in West Asia until now ever since Israel became a nuclear power about two hundred times over? Nothing.

I also want to ask him what has happened to the world ever since America exploded two nuclear devices over Japan killing about 300000 people? Nothing.

Therefore, what does he think might happen if Iran also develops a few of such as Israel has about 200?

I actually laud Mr Arora's effort in that he unhesitatingly expresses admiration for Mr Ahmedinejad's courage!

I loved it! Hurray Mr Ahmedinejad! He is truly brave while the rest of the world is cowering to the bully!

I think some of the things mentioned here are quite sensible. Secondly the oil price on the world markets has TODAY achieved over USD 120 so his prediction about USD 100 a barrel has more than come true. Brent oil as it called (oil stock exchange) is now over 120 dollars. This happened IST 15.30 (3.30 pm). I have also looked up the English dictionary and found the world proliferation means not spreading it or giving it to others. Therefore even if Iran has signed the so called defunct and biased NPT (Non proliferation treaty), yet it has full rights to manufacture nuclean devices(including weapons) as long as it does not give away these weapons (or technology) or spreading them to third party. The legal issues behind NPT have never been claified as the US, Israel, UK and the French do not want a proper definition of NPT means. As far as the US is concerned it wants Israel to have a monolopy in the Middle East (West Asia) in order for Israel to keep constantly threatening its neighbours with so called deterence factor. In my opinion why Iran is hankering over Nuclear technology and may be even weapons is to be free from threats from the Western powers and Israel. Can you imagine US attacking Iran if it had nuclear weapons? No!. See only for yourself North Korea who has weapons, the US wants endless talks and does not threaten North Korea beccause it can cause heavoc in South Korea and Japan or may be even in China. Lastly the Western power do not even want a definition of the word terrorist. According to them everything or everybody involed in violence and killing is automatically a terrorist. What about all the killings in the US domestically as it is the country where most people die through violence. Therefore let us not be quick in blaming other countries as it is important to find out the facts before condemning anybody or any nation. There is good and bad everywhere.

I find this article extremely biased against Iran. Though both US and Israel are already sitting on huge stockpile of nuclear weapons, the media here seems obsessed with the speculation that Iran is developing a nuclear weapons program, though its President has stated that it is for civilian use to meet its energy needs. Even if Iran goes ahead and makes nuclear weapons to protect its national interests, it has as much right to do so as Israel or Pakistan (both already have the N-missiles). While Govt of India has played a balancing act so far, it is premature for the media to condemn Iran for its presumed future actions. I wish, like the Govt, the media too had a neutral view too.

Unfortunately, India, as foolowing Gandhi style, would not probably take any decisive stance, rather go for hunger strike to protest the WWIII.
The danger looms large, as India is being dragged into the conflict, and eventually be instigated by neighboring countries. India is basically a reacive state not a proactive state.
